At United Way of East Central Iowa, we know that when times are tough, our community rises up and takes care of one another. Now more than ever, our neighbors in East Central Iowa are facing challenges in making ends meet and need your support. To ensure individuals in our community have access to basic needs resources when they need them most, we are launching our “Together, We Can” mini campaign.
This campaign aims to raise $50,000 to support basic needs. In East Central Iowa, 67% of working single moms struggle to make ends meet, which can mean choosing between putting food on the table or paying the utility bill.
Jessica’s Story
One of those working single moms was Jessica Horaney. A single mom and balancing college studies, Jessica leaned on her community for extra help for everything from healthcare coverage to food security, school loans, and baby supplies.
“It’s important for us to realize there are many others like me who appreciate a hand up to help their family. This support can help families, like mine, thrive through challenging times,” Jessica said.
Now, Jessica and her family are thriving, as she holds a leadership position at work and gives back to the community, just as it once did the same for her. It’s times like this when our community rallies together and takes care of our own.
Campaign Matches
To help our campaign get started, Mark Polking and Van Meter are each matching $2,500. When you give to this campaign, your gift has double the impact, thanks to their support.
